DNA Results Helps PCPD Crack Car Theft Cold Case

Recent DNA lab results helped lead the Port Chester Police Department to a car thief who stole a village resident’s car four years ago, Lt. James Ladeairous said.Police arrested Marcus Santana Perez, a 25-year-old New York City resident, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, four days after he had been arrested by a New York City precinct because of the results of the same DNA test, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Port Chester police had taken DNA found inside a Port Chester resident’s car on June 1, 2009 after the Mamaroneck Police Department found it damaged and running in their jurisdiction.

On Aug. 8 of this year, PCPD received a letter from the DNA lab saying they had made a positive identification on that case, Ladeairous said. Apparently, Perez had been arrested for a recent crime to which DNA evidence linked him.

Police easily found Perez, who was on probation in New York City and found out that the 102nd precinct there also wanted him for a burglary he was linked to as a result from the DNA test.

The 102nd precinct picked him up on Aug. 16 and arrested him for the burglary he is accused of committing there, but he made $500 bail so he was free again.Port Chester police waited until his next appointment with his parole officer on Aug. 20 and arrested him and charged him with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a Class E Felony. He was remanded to Westchester County Court and was due in court today.
