Daughter of NY Giants' Mara Arrested after Drunken Head-On Crash, Chase

Arrest information is supplied by the Port Chester Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

A 52-year-old Stamford, Conn. woman is facing multiple charges after driving, drunk, head-on into a taxi cab in Port Chester, N.Y. and then failing to pull over immediately for police in pursuit.

Sheila Mara, of 445 Hunting Ridge Road, was charged with driving under the influence, traveling the wrong way on a one-way street and leaving the scene of an accident, Port Chester Police said.

At about 2 a.m. on Nov. 23, police received a report that a black Jeep traveling north by the intersection of Adee and King Streets had run into a tax cab, according to Port Chester Police Lt. James Ladeairous. The mototrist continued up King Street and ignored a police cruiser in pursuit with its lights flashing and sirens wailing, police said. The Jeep nearly reached Rye Brook when a second officer passed the vehicle and then slowed down, forcing it to stop near King Street and Comly Avenue, Ladeairous said.

When Mara got out of the Jeep, she was unsteady on her feet with slurred speech and her breath smelled heavily of alcohol, Ladeairous said. She was over twice the legal limit, he said.

Mara, profiled and pictured here in a 2012 article from The Advocate newspaper of Stamford, is one of 11 children of the late Wellington Mara, legendary owner of the New York Giants football team and son of the team’s founder, a Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee.
