Crash Near Kohls Leads to Drunk-Driving Arrest

Police arrested a 20-year-old Port Chester man early on the morning of Nov. 22 after he apparently drove drunk into a fence near the Kohls shopping center.

Darwin Alvarez, of 246 Seymour Road, was charged with driving under the influence.

At about 1:12 a.m. police received a report of a car stuck on the tracks, according to Lt. James Ladeairous. When police arrived they found a white two-door vehicle with heavy front-end damage there, with Alvarez behind the wheel talking on a cellphone, Ladeairous said.

He stepped ot of the car, eyes bloodshot and smelling of alcohol, and told police he’d had some drinks earlier, police said. Alvarez said his brakes had failed and that caused the accident, and that he was in the area because he was picking up a friend near Westy’s. He was charged with driving under the influence.
