Court: Truck Driver Faces Hit and Run Charges, Grocery Store Slugger Sentenced

Reckless driving, sentencing for assault charges and grand larceny were among the cases at Port Chester Village Court's July 12th session.

A tractor trailer driver driver was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

Michael Dwayne King, 40 of Anderson, South Carolina, was involved in a hit and run accident, when his tractor trailer rear-ended another car on July 9. He was found on New Broad Street and arrested.

King is currently being held without bail. The case is adjourned until Aug. 16.

Port Chester Man charged with grand larceny

A Port Chester man has been charged with stealing $5,000 from his boss.

Juan Hernandez, 30, of Port Chester, worked for a seafood distributor. When funds were missing, his boss questioned him and Hernandez claimed the clients did not pay. When the customers were contacted, they said they had paid Hernandez in cash.

With support from his family and the pastor of his church, who attended the court session, his lawyer pleaded with Judge Joseph A. Vita, noting Hernandez was the only source of income for his pregnant girlfriend and that the charges should be further investigated.

He is charged with grand larceny, which is a class D felony.

Bail is set for Hernandez at $750. The case is adjourned until July 19.

Stop and Shop Slugger Sentenced to 30 days in prison

Michael Johnson, 37, of Port Chester, was sentenced to 30 days in county jail for punching a woman at a grocery store.

He was charged with attempted assault and resisting arrest last month, when he had punched a woman during an altercation at Stop and Shop, at Waterfront Place, Lt. James Ladeairous said. 

In addition to 30 days incarceration, Johnson was also slapped with a two-year order of protection for the victim and a $25 surcharge.

Court is in session Monday, Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m.
