Cops to Kids: Stay Off Old United Hospital Site

Group found on property picked up by Port Chester Police; parents had to come get kids.

Port Chester police say they want to make it very clear to local children and teenagers that the old United Hospital site is not a place for them to play or hang out.

Four youths, ranging in ages from 12 to 16, were found on the closed hospital site at about 6:16 p.m. Thursday. Police said the site is posted and trespassing is not allowed.

The youths were taken to Police Headquarters and their parents were contacted. All four were released to their parents, and warned against going to the hospital site again in the future.

No charges were filed against the youths.

The site off Boston Post Road, now owned by Starwood Capitol, is the focus of redevelopment proposals and debate among Port Chester residents about the future of the site. Starwood in 2012 proposed contrustion of a complex with more than 800 residential units — sparking an outcry among village residents who fear an influx of new residents would overwhelm Port Chester's already-crowded schools.
