College Student, Son of Madoff Accountant, Dies in Apparent Suicide

Jeremy Friehling, 23, found dead from gunshot wound in Columbus, OH.

A college student from New City, the son of the New City man who was the longtime accountant for Bernard Madoff, has died of an apparent suicide in Columbus, OH, according to police.

Clarkstown police in Rockland County said they were notified Thursday night of the death of Jeremy Friehling, 23, who was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Friehling was the son of David G. Friehling of New City, a former accountant who worked for Bernard Madoff. Friehling pleaded guilty in Madoff's massive Ponzi scheme, a fraud that ran for years and had thousands of victims who lost billions of dollars — including many victims througout the Westchester, Putnam and Rockland area.

Friehling, charged in 2009, admitted in federal court that he produced the audits that allowed Madoff to hide his Ponzi scheme from the government for years.

In 2010, Mark Madoff, the son of jailed Bernard Madoff, commited suicide. He was found hanging in a Manhattan apartment.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
