Burglars Steal Safe Containing $100k From Port Chester Office

Burglars stole a safe containing $100,000 from a Main Street development company.

Burglars made off with a small fortune after stealing a safe from a Port Chester development company over the weekend, according to police.

A sharp-eyed employee called the owner of Great American Development after he was driving by the 507 N. Main St. office a few minutes after 1 p.m. on Sunday. The employee noticed one of the company's work vans parked in the lot next to the office, which he said was unusual because the vans are parked indoors and were garaged when the owners locked up on Saturday afternoon, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The employee called the company's owner, who drove down to check on the office. When they entered the front door of the building, they noticed the alarm system panel had been ripped off the wall. In the rear of the building, a ladder was balanced against the wall, leading to an upstairs window.

Missing from the office was a safe which contained $100,000, Ladeairous said. The owner told police employees had gone home a few minutes after 5 p.m. on Saturday.

No one from the company was able to say how one of the work vans ended up in the nearby parking lot. Police are holding off on saying whether they believe it was an inside job.

Anyone with information on the burglary can call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000. All calls will be kept confidential.

I always thought the name "Great American" was ironic because they've done anything BUT make Port Chester into a great American village. I'm thrilled to see they're getting a taste of their own medicine by having someone rob from them. Essentially, they stole from Port Chester... the beauty and charm of old homes by closing-in porches to create another inhabitable bedroom; using and paying-off (with the "the black hand") our publicly-funded DPW to dump 10x more residential garbage than allowed; creating unsafe housing for illegal aliens who have flocked here which have resulted in overcrowding this small < 2 sq mile village and our deteriorating school district; the list goes on. Add about 10-zeros to their $100K loss and that's what they've stripped from Port Chester over the last 20yrs.

I'm glad there's another resident that feel's like I do they been screwing pC for years and now were going after the infamous building dept.

Mr. Cuddy, you should have been elected to the Board of Trustees. I hope you run again because you have my vote. Contact me if you need a campaign manager. May God bless this town -- we need all the prayers we can get!!

Very true comments- and the liberal wackos give them cover by making a civil rights issue out of quality of life problems.

I wonder who the Native is??? You people seem to blame everything on Great American, Those who throw stones, should not live in glass houses!!! When are you going to sue the town again??? Lets see how many of these aliens you hired through the years!!!
sammy hager July 07, 2011 at 12:26 AM
Exactly who did they screw? They have cleaned up most of the run down properties in town. There would be no illegal aliens, if this town did not cater to them at Don Bosco or build them places to keep warm while looking for work, who do you blame for that? Great American or the Village??
I Hate Hypocrites July 07, 2011 at 02:15 AM
What a bunch of hypocrites. Tell me that none of you use illegals for landscaping, small jobs around your homes or frequent restaurants that employ them. Knock off the idiotic comments - it's not Great American's fault. Tell the government to close the borders and the illegals will stop coming. Karma's a bitch PC Native - wish someone else ill will and it will bite you in your big ass everytime! Love that Walgreens! LOL

To clear the record because you, Hypocrite Hater and Sammy Da Bull Hager, think I'm Bart Didden -- I'm actually female. I find it laughable that you think Great American actually IMPROVED the aesthetics of houses here. You can borrow my flashlight because I bet it's pretty dark where you're putting your heads lately.

PC Native is right and I'll bet the new cache of "lost" records recently found at the building dept. have Great American written all over them. That stolen $100K was cash that probably started off as bribe money that was supposed to go to Cusumano, then Rucollo, then for paying the illegal workers under the table, but then was earmarked for defense lawyers to keep Great American out of jail when the s**t hits the fan with the new PC code enforcement initiative. What contracting company or business keeps $100K laying around in cash? Salaries, equipment and supplies are business expenses. Most legitimate business pay those with checks and credit cards so there is a record.

that cash was all the rent they received from illegal apartments. You can't blame the immigrant- if they know there is a place where they can live easily and get what they need, they will flock here. I'm pinning my hopes on the new building dept to take care of inspections and make the Village a safe place for all to live.

The people of PC need to face facts! Do you think our Village is the only one with illegals, are you kidding me..Is Great American to blame for all the other States, Cities, Towns and yes people, "Villages", with illegals. They are here because of our government, and they are not going anywhere are they..The village is smal,l more noticable here, take a look around you, get use to it, or maybe you want them to come live with you!! Get off the Great American Bash Wagon. I have a couple of rentals myself pc lover, guess you dont know to much about that kind of Business!!! How disgusting to bring up someone who has departed, and cant defend himself..your despicable! And these are the folks who are running this town!!
AA11 July 07, 2011 at 01:41 PM
Really hager? Do you actually believe Great American was running a clean business? I would love to hear your answer on that one..How many rental properties did/do they own in PC. And of those, how many were turned into illegal dwellings? I can be pretty sure every house they bought weren't 5+ family homes. They had the building dept. in their back pocket and were doing deals under the table ..Its not disgusting when bringing up the truth. Who was to say that there was 100k in that safe? The owners? LOL..hopefully the police do their investigating on this one

Before publishing this post, I reached out to Great American and left a message for the owners/managers. I explained that putting this out there could help the police track down the burglars, lead to tips, etc. Owners or management are welcome to call me back and discuss the burglary. In the meantime, let's try to keep this on topic and not turn it into a platform for baseless accusations against our readers. Thanks.

the people that stole the money can't read or speak English so they'd better hope El Diario or Univision pick-up this story. buena suerte Great Americanos Developmente Corporacion!

C'mon Sammy, the indiscretions of the old guard is common knowledge. I haven't divulged any national secrets here. You know it and so does everyone else, so don't be coy. You are right about the government allowing the illegals to flow in, however we didn't need anyone to set up rooming houses in PC to invite and accomodate them, all while increasing our density, overburdening our infrastructure and schools, and not contributing enough tax dollars to offset the usage. In any event, it will be interesting to see how things go down over the next year or two as the building department wades through the morass and mess. Since you have a couple of rental properties and know all about "that kind of business" I am sure you have everything ship shape, legal and to code...otherwise they're gonna get you!

Popping the bubbles that we must face is our main investigation
