Burglar Caught on Camera; Police Search for Suspect

The burglar smashed the glass front door of a Willett Avenue auto shop with a broomstick, according to police.

Police are looking for a burglar who was caught on camera breaking into an auto shop on Willett Avenue Saturday morning.

Officers responded to JC Auto Sales at 305 Willett Ave. when an automatic burglary alarm sounded at 2:49 a.m., Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Two glass panes on the front door had been smashed, and a garage door had been left open. Officers searched the business and the surrounding area, but the burglar was gone.

He did, however, leave some important clues on tape. Security camera footage shows a man breaking the glass front door with a broomstick, then heading to the right side of the building, where he made his way to the garage, smashing several other window panels along the way.

It wasn't immediately clear if anything was taken from inside the shop, or if the burglar was scared off by the alarm before he could make off with anything.

Port Chester police say they're holding onto the footage pending a review by the Westchester County District Attorney's Office.

Anyone with information on the break-in can call the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000. All calls will be kept confidential.
