Blood Leads Port Chester Detectives to Burglar

Oscar Padilla Morales left blood on the window pane and floor of a Bush Avenue apartment after breaking in Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

A Port Chester man faces a felony burglary charge after detectives matched his injuries to blood left on a window pane.

On Wednesday at 5 p.m., police received a call from a 32-year-old woman who lives in an apartment on Bush Avenue. The victim told police she'd left for the day and was sure she'd locked the front door and windows in her apartment, but when she returned a window was open.

She called her boyfriend, who told her to call police. An officer responded and did a walk-through of the apartment with the victim, noticing blood on a window pane and on the floor nearby, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The victim then told detectives she noticed a man coming out of the basement around the time she'd returned to her apartment. She knew the man, 24-year-old Oscar Padilla Morales. Morales, who lives nearby at 17 Bush Ave., told the victim he went into the basement because he'd heard a suspicious noise.

Detectives went to interview Morales, who had fresh cuts on the top of his right hand and left arm. He told police the same story about a suspicious noise, but later admitted he'd broken into the apartment.

The victim wasn't immediately sure if anything was missing, and it's possible Morales was interrupted before he could remove anything from the apartment.

Morales was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony. He was arraigned and scheduled to return to Port Chester village court.
