Basement Fire in Port Chester Home

Firefighters responded to 450 Glen Ave. in Port Chester just after 2:30 Thursday afternoon.

A basement fire forced several residents out of their home on Glen Ave. in Port Chester Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the white two-story home at 450 Glen Ave. at about 2:30 p.m. after one of the occupants called in the fire, said Port Chester Assistant Fire Chief Kevin McMinn.

The fire started in the basement and was beginning to spread onto the first floor when firefighters arrived, said McMinn. Once on the scene, responders were able to put out the fire within minutes, he said.

Everyone in the home got out safely before firefighters arrived, said McMinn.

There was minor damage in the basement and a wall had to be taken down to keep the fire from spreading, said McMinn, who said the overall damage was very minimal.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
