Autopsy: Stamford Man Didn't Die from Wounds

Police now await the results of a toxicology on a Stamford man who was found unconscious in a parking lot Monday.

An autopsy found no signs of physical trauma on the body of a Stamford man who was found in a Broad Street parking lot early Monday morning.

Officers found 41-year-old Gilberto Barrera-Hernandez laying on the ground, unconscious but still breathing, a few minutes after 4 a.m. on Monday.

Barrera-Hernandez was brought by ambulance to Greenwich Hospital, where he had a heart attack and a short while later.

Police initially suspected physical trauma because they found the victim after receiving reports of a fight that had spilled out of a nearby bar after last call. When officers arrived, they found crowds scattering.

But police saw no obvious signs of physical trauma on Barrera-Hernandez, and an autopsy by the Fairfield County Medical Examiner confirmed that the Stamford man did not die from physical trauma.
