Another Wrong-Way Driver on the Thruway: Media Report

A Rye Brook man caused an accident near Tarrytown while driving southbound in the northbound lanes of the New York State Thruway before dawn May 4, according to the Nyack Free Press.

State police charged the 32-year-old with driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment, misdemeanors. He was also cited for leaving the scene of a property damage accident, going the wrong-way on the highway and improperly entering the highway, reported Bill Demarest of the nyackfreepress.com.

Wrong-way drivers have caused numerous accidents in the past few years, as the Patch archives recall:

drunk drivers, when causing a accident, should get some time in locked cell , to teach them not to drink and drive. lock the bastards up , same with diving high, give them a high cell .

As indicated , this seems to happen alot in Westchester Co. , The drivers are not always intoxicated , and those that are should face heavy penalties , but maybe our entrance / exit ramps should be examined ,possibly making the signs more visible ?

More stringent road tests, retesting elderly past 65 years old. The people who don't realize they are driving against traffic are either intoxicated or elderly.

Something else is going on here under the surface. We did not have this problem 25 years ago. The ramps have remained the same for over 50 years. Something in the people has changed. They are drugged up on multiple prescription mind altering medication, prescribed like candy or drink they themselves into stupidity and are endlessly distracted and dumbed-down with what is considered a phone. It's more of a "Stupid device". The cracks are beginning to show! Then add in third world driving practices. One can not legislate stupidity.
