A Port Chester man is accused of drunken driving after sideswiping a car and then driving away, according to Port Chester police.
The owner of an Audi that was struck by a Dodge Caravan followed the minivan as it drove off and he was able to point the driver out to police who came to investigate the accident.
Jose Vicente-Pelico, 39, of 24 Exchange Place, Port Chester, was found in a driveway on Birch Street in Port Chester after the initial accident on Locust Avenue, police said. Police said that when village officers went to question Vicente-Pelico, there was a language barrier and the driver tried to hand police $20 when he was asked to show his driver's license and vehicle registration.
Police said Vicente-Pelico was highly intoxicated and there were empty beer bottles and beer cans in the car. Police said they do not believe Vicente-Pelico was trying to offer a bribe with the cash — he just didn't understand what was going on at the time.
Vicente-Pelico was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle — he doesn't have a license — leaving the scene of an accident, a violation, and he was given a ticket for failing to wear his seatbelt.
No one was injured in the accident.
