Recent weird and unusual crime in the Hudson Valley. Reports do not indicate a conviction.

Police: Causes Still Unknown for Jan. Bedford Fires

Two fires in the Bedford-Katonah area in January remain under investigation, according to officials. A vacant home was destroyed by fire on New Year's Day is being investigated by authorities and may have a suspicious cause. The other fire remaining under investigation involved nearly 100 firefighters battling the blaze at Oscar de la Renta's step daughter's home.  

New City Man Jailed After Wild Chase that Ended with Crash in West Nyack

A wild chase through Clarkstown ended with a crash in West Nyack, a hurt police officer, and more than a dozen charges against a man initially stopped at a routine traffic checkpoint. Multiple cars were damaged during the incident. Police say the incident occurred when the driver was stopped at a routine checkpoint and police discovered his license was suspended. The driver then sped away and a chase ensued. At one point on the parkway, police said the suspect attempted to collide with two Sheriff's vehicles. Eventually, police say, the suspect assaulted a police officer by colliding into the officer's patrol car; the officer was taken to Nyack Hospital for treatment. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a parked car in West Nyack. Police found drug paraphernalia, heroin, and cocaine in the suspects car. He was also taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash and to check his system for substances. 

Nyack Man Charged in Mugging at Nanuet Supermarket

A Nyack man is accused of taking a woman's purse as she went to her car at the Stop and Shop parking lot in Nanuet. Surveillance video apparently recorded the incident. Shortly after the mugging, the victim's ATM card was used. 

Police: Cortlandt Man Damaged Windshield after Seeing Woman in Car with another Man

A Cortlandt man was arrested for allegedly smashing a car windshield with a rock last November. The driver of the car told police that the suspect spotted him with a former female acquaintance and trailed the driver to his home. At that point the suspect allegedly got out of his car, demanded the man and woman exit their car and when they didn't, smashed the windshield with a rock. The car damage was valued at $1,500. 

Police Almost Struck by Man Without License

A Sleepy Hollow man allegedly almost struck a police officer by going through a right light. The driver did not have a license.
