Resident Seeks Input about Port Chester's Amnesty Program

When the amnesty program was first introduced, we thought it was good.  We thought their main purpose was to eliminate illegal apartments and overcrowding in PC.  What it has become is a nightmare for the good taxpaying residents.  They have turned it into a "cash cow" by using a threatening strategy of using a deadline to sign up for the program.  They even gave an example showing the public that if they don't sign up, the cost for complying with the codes would cost you many thousands more.  It is so much easier to get money from the "good guys" than work a little harder going after the "bad guys."  This is absolutely wrong, and we should do all we can to rid ourselves of this scourge.  I am asking all of you to make yourselves heard, in any way you can, to let the BOT know that you're against the amnesty program.  Many of you have already suffered because of it and many are still suffering.  We can only overcome this unfair and possibly illegal practice to go on by uniting against it.  Unfortunately, so many residents are intimidated to appear at BOT meetings, but you can write, call, e-mail or FAX your feelings.  This will go a long way, because they might pay some attention to many voices speaking out against the amnesty.  You can also post your comments here, because they pay attention to what is said on the Patch.  Please give some help to this senior who was born and raised in PC, and who can't help but fight against a program that is wrong.
