Somebody's Mom: Bellas Restaurant Breakfast Review

Bellas Homemade Toast

Searching for places to have breakfast in Tarrytown, came up first in my search. It could have been because it is in the beginning of the alphabet or it could be because it is the No. 1 place for breakfast in Tarrytown.

I made my decision after researching a few places to visit for breakfast, because when I called Bellas to confirm that indeed they were open, and yes, they had a full breakfast menu. The lady on the other line sounded so peppy and happy early on a Sunday morning. Plus she told me that everything is wonderful. So confident in her statement, I had to find out if it was true.

Mela—my breakfast companion—and I arrived at Bellas Restaurant in Tarrytown, which was easy to find by the way, at 9:40 a.m. on a Sunday morning. We both felt it was a good sign that there was only one free table available. There was a homey atmosphere; the place is small but large on service, friendliness and good food.

After I took out my camera to photograph our breakfast, our waitress—a real pro in customer service, Kelly Arrigo, from Peekskill—said Mela and I were cute.  She thought we were just two quirky ladies especially after my crazy requests.  Kelly was perfect, happy and went with the flow. We liked her and kicked in more than our usual 20 percent tip on the bill to prove it.

Coffee was delicious, not too strong at all, with great flavor and served in a large coffee mug. We were offered more coffee without asking and also given Splenda on request. We ordered a broccoli, mozzarella and onion egg-white omelet with home fries on the side.

For our toast, Bellas offers Bellas toast, which was one thick slice of what seemed like homemade white bread like the kind my mom used to bake. It looked so good that we paid extra for one more slice so we didn’t have to share. The home fries were crunchy and paprika-seasoned but not too much. The omelet was smaller in size than we usually get at other places, but nonetheless enjoyable.

We also ordered their buttermilk pancakes, with bacon on the side. No maple syrup to pay extra for, because at Bellas customers bring their own bottle of real maple syrup and leave it at the restaurant for when they come in. That was definitely the first time I heard that.

We were able to get real butter in the pats, and the pancakes were light, tender and tasty. When Kelly served the bacon, she was so cute. She said, “If it isn’t crispy enough for you, I can bring it back.” We loved her, and the bacon was crispy enough.

At $21.85 plus a generous tip, Bellas was by far our most economical breakfast to date.

Don’t be fooled by the Restaurant/Donut Shop sign in the window; Bellas is so much more than a doughnut shop. As Mela commented on the chalk board menu in the window as we left, “Nice place, I really enjoyed it and I want to come back to try their soup!”

You will too once you try Bellas Restaurant.

Not everyone enjoys the same movie, book or breakfast; and that's what makes the world go 'round.

I've been going to Bella's for years and I LOVE it!! Best breakfast, best coffee, best soup, and best service in town! There are a group of regulars who have breakfast every morning at Bella's, so I know I'm not the only one who thinks Bella's is the best!
