Letter to the Editor: Becoming the Change

Port Chester resident Gabrielle Broder shares her thoughts on the 2012 presidential election.

OK, we got him in (brief sigh of relief and shout for joy!). Now, it's time for the REAL work to begin.

Time to hold his feet to the fire, gently, but firmly. Tough love.

Time to roll up our sleeves and BECOME the change he eloquently preaches but cannot deliver. His power is but an illusion. His hands tied by the sticky, filthy, invisible strings of a global corporate state run amok.

But without a blind and docile populous the powerful are impotent. The elite cannot rule. If we, the People, do not recognize their imaginary pedestals high up above us in the clouds, they fall, and as the emperor who had no clothes, are revealed before us, for what they truly are. Just another vulnerable, naked human. An equal. Imperfect and divine as the rest of us.

And so we must never abandon him out of disappointment or disgust or frustration with a broken system. Nor sit back and passively pray to him as a savior expecting CHANGE to be delivered on a platter. But rather let us articulate a clear vision and then propel him towards it, all the while working tirelessly on the ground to build the future we desire from the foundation upwards. Let us lead by example.

True power is derived from below. Permission to govern must be granted. But this is not enough. Leaders must be supported and nurtured and molded and pushed, or they sink into irrelevancy. He ascended on our swelling tides, but his effectiveness and potency now rest entirely on our shoulders.

It is us, the masses, the drops in the bucket, who possess the only true power.

In the face of the faux-powerful, who led us down this path of deceitful destruction, insulting our brothers and sisters of differing nations and creeds, and angering the seas, let us not be swept away or drowned. Of many raindrops, a great and mighty ocean can emerge. Let us become the sea then. The storm surge. The Frankenstorm wreaking havoc on antiquated structures that do not serve life on Planet Earth.

The water is rising. We can, and must, shift the currents and change course and be a force for good. It is our duty. The future of humanity is depending on us.

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
