I was always good with math. But then my grandson went to first grade. He came home with homework and his mathbook. I read the first problem which was a simple '2+3 equals what'? I could not understand the language that was used as I never heard of some of the words. He however, did and got the right answer after going through many steps of filling in boxes etc.

It is no wonder that many children are not doing well. It always was that your father or mother would check your homework when you were done. That aspect is going away fast leaving the kids in a hole. It appears that education is trying to come up with more teaching for testing than actually teaching the subject.

I call it  'Common Waste of time.'
