Obituary: Howard C. Prescott of Port Chester

Howard C Prescott passed into the hands of his Lord on Thursday, June 6, 2013 after a long full life, with his loving family by his side.

Howard was born on May 5, 1922 in Ocala, Florida, the son of Charles D Prescott and Helen Cooper Prescott. Howard spent his early years in Florida and New Jersey before settling permanently in Westchester County, NY. Howard graduated from Port Chester High School in 1940, where he was a member of the gymnastics team. After high school he enlisted in the army at Governor’s island on Sept 42, 1942. Howard was stationed at the Panama Canal during World War II and also saw duty on the Galapagos Islands.

After the war Howard returned to Port Chester and became a draftsman. He married Jennie Aloisio from Peekskill, NY on August 22, 1948 and they resided at the home of his parents in Port Chester, NY. He became a route salesman, first with a diaper service and later as a milkman with Dellwood Dairy. With the birth of his two daughters, he and Jennie encouraged their interests in music and the girl scouts while taking on the challenge of remodeling their home. After retiring from Dellwood he worked for several years in maintenance at SUNY Purchase.

Howard enjoyed a long retirement, first pursuing an interest in golf, then continuing his lifelong interest in birding, walking and reading, as well as enjoying spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Howard was a faithful member of the Methodist church in Port Chester, serving for many years as an usher.

In addition to his parents, Howard was predeceased by his brother Wallace, who was killed while serving in France in 1944.  Howard is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jennie, daughters Diane (James) Richmond and Deborah (Cisco) Rivera, seven grandchildren -Jason, Carrie and Brian (Jessica) Richmond, Thomas (Julia) Mullan and Cristina (Jack) Palazzo, Jenny and Michele Croteau, and five great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregiving nurses of Hospice and, in lieu of flowers, suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Westchester County.
