Recycling: How Does Port Chester Fare?
Westchester County releases recycling rate data for each of its towns, villages and cities. New Castle has a 62-percent recycling rate, while Mount Kisco has a 50-percent rate.
Port Chester recycles 67 percent of its waste, according to data released Tuesday by Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino's office.
The overall county rate comes in at 52, with nine municipalities at rate of more than 70 percent, including nearby neighbors Rye (70 percent) and Rye Brook (71 percent).
The rates include recycling of several types of material's, announcement notes.

"These recycling rates include a wide variety of materials the municipalities collected and diverted for reuse purposes beyond cans, bottles and paper collected curbside, such as large wood debris following Hurricane Sandy, roadway millings, large bulk metals and construction debris."
Westchester is also seeing a lower garbage amount, with the residential trash volume within the county's refuse district - about 90 percent of Westchester residents live in it - went down for the fifth year in a row. The tons of garbage recorded for 2012 were at 376,890, versus a record of 540,217 for 2007, which means a decrease over the period of 30.2 percent.
