Community Corner

Memorial Day Service and Sign Dedication at the African American Cemetery

The Town of Rye African American Cemetery Committee, and Girl Scout Troop #1838 cordially invite the community to a Memorial Day Service for the veterans interred at the African American Cemetery at Greenwood Union Cemetery on Saturday, May 24 at 10 am.

The committee has been making slow but steady progress
with each passing year to revitalize the cemetery.  This
year they are proud to announce the addition of new signage for the
cemetery.  Girl Scout Anna-Kay Smickel of
Rye, NY has researched information to appear on a a three sided graphic kiosk as
part of her Silver Star Project.  The
foundation for this sign has been donated by John Zicca of John Zicca
Landscaping, Inc. of Port Chester, NY.

The

installation of this sign brings the project ever closer to having this landmark

cemetery become a place for learning and reflection for the entire community and for generations to come.
