Jim Connell: The Teapot                             

Lecture: Friday, February 7, 7pm
Workshop: Saturday, February 8, 10am-4pm
DEMONSTRATION


I his lecture, Jim will share his knowledge about historical and contemporary methods of teapot construction concentrating on the details of the teapot parts and the idiosyncratic variables that are possible.

During the workshop, Jim will throw a selection of teapot and tea bowl forms. The thrown forms will be paddled and pushed when leather-hard and then carved and shaved. The workshop will comment on the historical and contemporary range of cutting and carving devices, and their use, while concentrating on the various applications of the shaving Surform blades. Along the way he will explain his glazing and finishing methods, including a discussion on sandblasting.”
