Westboro Baptist Church Member Says Group Will Picket Sandy Hook Elementary

Hacker group posts info on Westboro members in response to protest announcement.

A member of Westboro Baptist Church, the group that is known for picketing funerals of soldiers and AIDS victims, says the group plans to picket Sandy Hook Elementary School, according to Examiner.com.

A day after Friday's shooting in Newtown, CT, where police said 20-year-old Adam Lanza killed his mother and then 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary, Westboro Baptist member Shirley Phelps-Roper posted a message on Twitter that the group would "sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment."

Fellow member Margie Phelps, according to Examiner.com, tweeted "Westboro 'God hates Fags' Baptist Church is planning to picket at Sandy Hook, to praise 'God's judgment.'”

Westboro Baptist Church is a Kansas-based organization that has gained national attention through its pickets at U.S. soldiers' funerals, by assailing homosexuality and even calling Barack Obama "the anti-Christ." Previous messages by Phelps-Roper have come prior to protests by the group. However, the group has threatened to protest at other high-profile incidents in the nation, but then failed to show up.

In apparent retribution for the protest threats, the hackers group Anonymous posted information — names, addresses, telephone numbers — of Westboro members online.

CNET reports that the posting of the data is part of a campaign dubbed #OPWestBoro to counter the efforts of Westboro Baptist Church members. Westboro also released a video called "God Sent the Shooter," saying it is a "message for Connecticut."

This is NOT the place for this; these people have already suffered way TOO much.
Seek your media attention somewhere else.
Beach Lover December 17, 2012 at 12:09 am
Are these people serious??? Disgusting.....
Lavender December 17, 2012 at 02:16 am
I can only hope that it's all sound and fury on WBC's part and that they will, as they have done many times before, chicken out of picketing like they claim they will.
However, the best thing we--and particularly the media--can do is simply ignore them. It's hard for them to get their message of hate out if no one is paying them any attention.
Michael Woyton (Editor) December 17, 2012 at 02:22 am
I had to cover Natasha Richardson's funeral a few years ago and Westboro said they were going to show up to protest her advocacy against AIDS. Westboro was a no show.
J Philip Faranda December 17, 2012 at 12:06 pm
I seem to recall their no-showing a Rockland County event also. Where in the world do they get their funding? Who would write them a check?
Ryan Buncher (Editor) December 17, 2012 at 12:08 pm
That seems to be their pattern of late. They make noise about protesting so they can get a little publicity, but they don't actually show up.
joe white December 17, 2012 at 01:48 pm
there was a local man killed in action here in Wheeling, WV. these idiots was going to protest his funeral so a few of our local motorcycle clubs went to the funeral for our friend the idiots never showed up. no balls. just sayin
Chris December 17, 2012 at 01:53 pm
The crowds will trample these protesters and they will get what they deserve.
ingeborg oppenheimer December 17, 2012 at 02:50 pm
one has to wonder whether this church's membership consists largely of homosexual folks who are not able to accept themselves as they are and choose instead to blast hatred of themselves and others like themselves over the community.
Jeanne December 17, 2012 at 05:04 pm
There is no end to the idiocy of these cretins. For them to be called a "church" is insane, I'm sure God is not pleased with them. If they actually show up I hope they are taken care of in whatever manner makes them disappear.
Jim Byrne December 17, 2012 at 05:44 pm
These people shouldn't even be reported on. Do not feed the trolls.
JM December 17, 2012 at 05:57 pm
Talk about hate.... I can think of numerous nut jobs in D.C. who our country would be better off without, but I wish them no harm. However, for Westboro and pedophiles (to me they are the same) I would feel no remorse in reading of their ultimate demise.
Kevin Zawacki (Editor) December 17, 2012 at 08:04 pm
Yes, they had planned to protest a play at Nyack High School in 2010, but called it off.

Does anyone has their E-mail, address and names? This way we could flood them with millions of massages and maybe some threats to beat them up. This might
keep them quite, at least for a while.
John Whitley December 18, 2012 at 01:55 am
A few years ago Westboro Baptist "Church" DID turn up in Nyack when Mayor Shields had pledged to perform gay marriages. Thousands turned up to protest their presence in the Village. I got to stand just a few feet away from Shirley Phelps-Roper and see the pure hatred on her moronic face. Somewhere in my e-mail archives I have the unbelievably ignorant, homophobic, disgusting messages she sent me. They are scum. Their agenda twists and perverts any sense of "religion". They will ALL burn in Hell for eternity.
John Whitley December 18, 2012 at 01:59 am
They planned to protest "The Laramie Project" at Nyack High School but then they remembered the thousands who showed up a few years previously to protest their appearance in South Nyack. Westboro seem to be scary, but remember, it is a Church that consists 95% of members of their widely-inbred family.

My sentiments exactly! To exploit a family grieving the loss of a loved one is something I find repugnant.
Wayne Riley December 19, 2012 at 09:09 pm
I previously posted the contact info that was free to anyone on the internet, I hope you good people use it and keep this vermin out of your town. They are just a bunch of attention whores and probaply won't show up, but if they do, I hope you decide to stone these bottom feeders. By the way, you should contact the wife, she wears the pants in this family of inbreeders....well when she's not inbreeding anyway.
Linda Mello December 21, 2012 at 03:19 am
These people do not believe in God that is evident, I am a Baptist and that isn't what I've been taught. They will feel the wrath of God through their hatred. God is love not hate.
Issy December 21, 2012 at 11:40 am
On the contrary these people very much do believe in god (the same one as you) and one certainly capable of heinous acts against children. 2 Kings 2 23-24

Ginger, Moe and Frankie. I am privilaged to honor you and Gabby with this funraiser. I would alsoRead More like to thank my family who drive 370 miles to help me and show their love for you. So many volunteers that help. Thank you Tina, Ray and Melissa for holding down the tshirt and bookbag table. Thank you to mom and dad for holding down the refreshment table and to Julie, Carley and Jason for working the raffle table. Also to Gabby for the wonderful tattoos and for Missy for teaching our children about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. I would also like to thank Al for bringing the firetruck and all the enjoyment it brought the little ones. Now to all that came and donated, I thank you. Without you all there would be no "WALK". Love you all, Peace and Love, Laurie.

One more person, my husband Rusty, you are my glue that holds me together. Thank you for putting upRead More with me through all my craziness. Love you.

Sorry Pete from Memorable Moments. You know how much you are appreciated for the wonderful picturesRead More that you took the day of the "walk" words cannot describe how I appreciate you donating your time. Thank you.

Cathy, Westmed should refer to you as "Valued Customer". No person can serve two masters.Read More Every Doctor must ask themself, "Am I serving my patients or am I serving the insurance companies? Because those two are in direct financial conflict with each other. Seven minute maximum "face time" sort of answers that question, doesn't it? Today, medicine is a business...once you accept that fact you will begin to have the proper mind set to better navigate the system as a customer, not as a patient. There are exceptions.
PC Lover June 15, 2013 at 09:06 am
Craig, I may be wrong but I doubt the average doctor at Westmed is making that much money. Do youRead More have a reference for that estimate or just wishful thinking?
PC Lover June 15, 2013 at 09:13 am
Cathy..I agree wholeheartedly. Charging for parking is the epitome of arrogance. As the insuranceRead More companies squeeze Westmed they are trying to pass their overhead onto us, when what they should be doing is dropping the underpaying plans and letting the world know which insurance companies they can no longer accept due to the insurance company's corporate greed. Maybe then the reimbursement will improve. I hope they choke on it.
Craig Noor June 14, 2013 at 05:31 pm
The new picture is decent ... only about 15 percent Byram.
Silvio V. Buccieri June 14, 2013 at 06:29 pm
IF you like roof tops, then this is picture you should keep posted.
FJT June 17, 2013 at 08:43 am
The photo I was referring to was the one that showed the Byram River not the one that's up thereRead More now. The village's own website has some nice photos of Port Chester. Maybe the Patch could ask to borrow one of those, or take their own photo using the same vantage point.

This photo is still not appropriate. Sorry, but it is more of Byram than of Port Chester. PleaseRead More choose a photo in Port Chester.
Craig Noor June 11, 2013 at 05:36 pm
Yep the left half is Byram ... As I mentioned, if you stood in Byram you could take a picture thatRead More was all Port Chester ...
Bea Conetta June 12, 2013 at 10:07 am
This picture is truly ridiculous, because it is not Port Chester. It is a photo of Byram and aRead More parking lot. As for Patch's new format, I dislike it intensely. Go back to the old format that was more interesting and not so dull. It was good to see the comments of residents and be able to give your own opinion. It wasn't broken, so why change it? I am still waiting to get some help on how to get to my past comments. Can anyone help me with that problem that arose with the new format?

HI everyone, I do not have the ability to change it myself right now. Patch is aware of the repeatedRead More requests for it to be changed. A new photograph will be put in place as soon as possible. I believe the Port Chester High School is the most beautiful High School in Westchester and all ofRead More the surrounding states. Its architecture is incomparable. I personally like this image of Main Street...although I would agree it is a sloppy photograph andRead More is not framed well. Why pretend that Port Chester is something that it isn't? It's not Rye. And I don't know why you'd rather have an image of generic sailboats as a backdrop.
