UPDATE: Schools Closed, New Haven Line Delayed, Roads Remain Slippery

Weather and traffic authorities urge caution today as roads turn icy ahead of the morning rush hour.

The fourth snowstorm in as many weeks only left a thin blanket of precipitation over the local area, but as snow flurries turn to icy rain, authorities warn of hazardous roads.

After a snow day last week, Port Chester cancelled school again today due to the weather. Students and teachers may have to make up time later in the year if the winter weather keeps up, since .

This morning's storm probably won't be popular with sledders and shovelers, especially as temperatures teeter on freezing. The wet, heavy mush will be difficult to shovel and plow, but forecasts predict mother nature will help clear roads and driveways.

Temperatures will hit a high of 38 degrees as the precipitation transitions to rain, helping to melt the snow, according to the National Weather Service's New York forecast office. Tomorrow, temperatures will peak at a relatively warm 43 degrees.

Transit: Trains on the New Haven line are operating between 30 and 40 minutes behind schedule, according to the MTA. The delays are due to damages wires on Metro-North tracks near the Stamford station.

Travel: Roads remain slippery, and both the DOT and the National Weather Service have issued traffic alerts. For commuters heading into Manhattan, there's an accident on the westbound lanes of I-95 near New Rochelle. For those headed into Connecticut, traffic is delayed due to an accident in the eastbound lanes on I-95 past Greenwich.

Update, 8:08 a.m.: Delays are reported on 287 and I-95, but nothing major in this neck of the woods. Commuters heading into the city, however, will have to content with several accidents along I-95 if they take that route through the Bronx.

Update, 8:44 a.m.: Metro-North is still having problems on the New Haven line and trains continue to run behind schedule. The MTA also cautions commuters to watch their step on platforms and stairways, which have become icy since the snow turned to freezing rain.
