The Great Escape: Take a Trip to Franklin D. Roosevelt's Hudson Valley Home

Located in Hyde Park, NY, Roosevelt's home gives a peek into our nation's history and offers a relaxing road trip all in one.

“All that is within me cries out to go back to my home on the Hudson River,” Franklin D. Roosevelt said.

A lot of people don’t know that when the former president uttered these words, he was actually talking about his home in Hyde Park, located less than two hours from Westchester. Since his Springwood estate is now available for public viewing seven days a week all year round, why not travel to Hyde Park for a hands-on history lesson?

History buffs also will find it remarkable that the first site of the U.S. Presidential Library was right here in our own backyard, so it'll be easy for visitors to use their imaginations to picture the monumental room as it once was all those decades ago.

From May until October, guests can tour Top Cottage, a home-away-from-home oasis built by FDR that was used as his escape from the big house.

There are also great nearby attractions that you can visit during your day trip to Springwood: the Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site are only two miles from the property.
