The Great Escape: Take a Trip to a Local Park

Enjoy a day of relaxation to ring in springtime with a trip to any of our Westchester recreation areas.

Breaking news: the brutally cold winter that was filled with potholes, black ice and sky-high heating bills is officially behind us, only to be replaced with flip flops and t-shirts. Amazed you were able to get through it? Most folks would agree some kind of badge of honor is in order—but until that happens, how should we celebrate in the meantime?

With a trip to one of Westchester’s local parks, of course. As you enjoy the green landscapes that seem to go on for miles, a cool spring day is the perfect excuse to pack up the kids in the car with some Frisbees and snacks for a blanket picnic and pick-up game.

Here is a list of our favorite picks. Feel free to comment with any we forgot to mention.

This park is a great for every member of the family—with golf, mini-golf, pool and a playground on site, everyone from your tiniest tot to your husband will enjoy this White Plains treasure.

Croton Point Park

Croton-on-Hudson, NY

Trekking to this Hudson River peninsula is worth the trip for wine connoisseurs and nature lovers. The site is thought to be that of the oldest wine cellars in New York, along with Croton Point Nature Center where visitors can bring home a little knowledge about the world around them.

Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial

Somers, NY

Dubbed the ‘horticultural hub of Westchester,’ this earth-friendly spot is a joy for any green thumb. Upon checking out the facility, you’ll be even greeted with a bit of country pride as the Chinese Friendship Pavillion resides here as a gift from the People’s Republic of China to county residents.
