Strong Winds Expected Today in Port Chester

The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

Strong and gusty winds—up to 50 mph—are the biggest hazard expected from a day of rain and thunderstorms.

"Highest threat potential is from this afternoon through this evening. This potential will be enhanced in areas of heavy showers or thunderstorms," the National Weather Service states in today's weather alert for the lower Hudson valley.

The possible impact: downed power lines, downed trees—and power outages, the NWS says.

Winds this strong can also make driving difficult, particularly for vehicles with high profiles (such as SUVs and trucks), the NWS warns.

In Port Chester in particular, the NWS forecast calls for heavy rain, totaling up to two inches, before the storm front moves out Wednesday night.
