Police Warn Ct. Residents Not to Dump in Port Chester

Port Chester police issued a Greenwich, Ct. man a ticket for prohibiting dumping after they caught him dumping garbage outside the Landmark Tuesday evening, Port Chester Police Lt. James Ladeairous said. The 30-year-old Greenwich man is one of many common violators who cross over from Connecticut to dump their trash in Port Chester because their town does not offer curbside pickup.

Wednesday morning a caller reported that someone put ten lawn bags of clippings and garbage, six plastic buckets filled with construction debris, two bags of cement and a potted plant outside their house overnight.

Police are tired of the dumping and are asking the public to report any suspicious people leaving trash around the village.

“The contractors know when we have curb-side pickup and they throw it in front of someone’s house and our DPW picks it up. It is a big burden on us to take their debris,” Ladeairous said.

The problem is picking up again so we are asking people to report anything suspicious, he said.
