PC Man Arrested for Burglary Tries to Flee Police Station

Port Chester resident Carlos Velasquez was arrested for felony burglary and then charged with felony Escape and Resisting Arrest after he attempted to sprint out of the police station once cops had him in custody last week, Police Lt. James Ladeairous said.

The 40-year-old man was arrested on July 4 around 12:40 p.m. after a mother and son allegedly caught him in their home. The two had just left their house when the mother realized she forgot her cell phone, said Port Chetser Police Lt. James Ladeairous. While the son went inside to retrieve a cell phone they forgot, he noticed that the refrigerator was open and heard a noise upstairs. He went upstairs and allegedly found Velasquez standing in the bathroom. The man told the boy he was there to get water and then left.

The mother saw him leaving and called the police. Police quickly caught Valesquez on Liecester Street thanks to a helpful description from the son, Ladeairous said. About two hours later Valesquez’s roommate went to police headquarters and turned in a box of jewelry and other things that been reported missing from a home about a week earlier.

While a Port Chester detective was processing Velasquez in the processing room he tried to run out of the building. He was apprehended before he made it out and brought back in, police said. The escape attempt added two more charges to his arrest, Escape in the first degree, a Felony and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor.

He was arraigned, not granted bail and was transferred to the Westchester County prison. He is due back in Port Chester court on Thursday, July 11.
