Patch Whiz Kid: Lukas Vitullo

As a developing bowler, this Port Chester student has already racked up awards and accomplishments well beyond his years.

Each week, Port Chester Patch will seek suggestions from readers for individual kids, youth groups, teens, and even sports teams that wow us with their accomplishments. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nomination in our comment box below or e-mail the information to nik@patch.com

When Vitullo found that he didn't need lane-framing bumpers to keep his bowling ball out of the gutter two years ago, he realized he had a knack for it.

And he’s only gotten better since then. Just last weekend in Staten Island, NY, the Port Chester native qualified and competed in the finals tournament for the New York State USBC Youth Association Scholarship Tournament. Held on April 16, he then went on to land a 7th place win against his peers. We’re pretty sure not too many elementary school-aged kids are able to say that.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness:

While his friends were outside playing neighborhood pick-up games, Lukas has spent the last two years dedicated to perfecting his game with the White Plains Bowl Junior Bowling League, where he has continues to excel since he started two years ago.

What's more, the young bowler is already ahead of the curve on college admissions before he's even reached reached middle school— and already won a college scholarship worth $1,000 from officials at the 2010 Westchester County Scholarship Tournament.
