Patch Bloggers: Gay Marriage, London Olympics

A recap of recent and popular blog posts in southern Westchester

Patch's must-read blog this week may be from Jospeh Coe, who tackles the Chick fil-A controversy in "This Debate is Bigger than a Chicken Sandwich."

Coe, a life-long Hudson Valley resident and 27-year-old gay man, sounds off on his younger years after coming out, and how the Chick fil-A drama—which began when the presidents announced his support of "traditional marriage," and not gay marriage—may impact current LGBT youths.

On the arts and entertainment front, Patch blogger and movie reviewer Craig Younkin unpacks recent flick Total Recall. His take? "The only thing worse than a reboot is a remake."

Do you agree? Check out the entire blog .

Lastly, if you're in the habit of reading any and all Olympic-related media, this one should be on your list. Patch blogger Terrence Levins sends us his dispatches directly from London—and notes why even U.S. eggs (as in, the food) beat out the competition. Leave a comment .

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
