Obituary: Frances R. Shutacawski, 102.

Former Port Chester resident.

Frances R. Shutacawski, a former Port Chester resident, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. She was 102.

Frances was born April 18, 1911, a daughter of the late Frank and Nellie Pietrzak of Hudson. She attended school in Plains Township.

Frances then began working at Neisner Brothers, Wilkes-Barre, PA, for many years. After retiring from there, she moved with her husband, Frank, to Port Chester, where both were employed by Empire Brush Co.

After her return to the Plains Township, PA, area, she became an active member of St. Joseph Church, Hudson. She was a member of the church's Altar and Rosary Society, the church choir and other numerous church organizations. Since she was the oldest member of St. Joseph's Church, she was given the honor of locking the church doors when it closed.

Frances was also active in community organizations, such as the Plains Senior Citizens Group and the Red Hat Society, where she enjoyed their camaraderie. She enjoyed playing the organ and loved to get together with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, in 1992; sisters, Stella Mroz and Lillian Merithew; brothers, Raymond, Joseph and Daniel.

She is survived by her sister, Ceil Rock; brothers, Clem and Leonard; numerous nieces and nephews.

In the past few years, she was a resident of St. Luke's Villa. Her family is truly grateful to the staff of St. Luke's Villa and the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the compassionate care she received.

A funeral is set for 8:30 a.m. Saturday from Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., 55 Stark St., Plains Township, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. from Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, PA. Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, PA.
