Greenwich Bridge Replacement Delayed

The work on Lockwood Lane bridge overpass on I-95, originally scheduled to begin April 1 has been postponed until mid-May.

The work to demolish and replace the Lockwood Lane bridge overpass on I-95 in Riverside, CT, has been postponed.

According to an early evening announcement emailed by the Greenwich Department of Public Works, the work and resulting road closures and detours that were scheduled to begin April 1 have been postponed until mid-May.

An explanation for the delay of the $3 million project that will be paid for and supervised by the state Department of Transportation was not given. The work is to be done by Rotha Construction of Avon.

"The Lockwood Lane Bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project from the middle of May 2013 through November 30, 2013. Check the Town website for an update on the exact closure date near the beginning of May," according to the email from James Michel, chief engineer for Greenwich DPW.

Despite the apparent six-week delay, the completion date remains the same.

Earlier this month, the town announced the project and the resulting detours.  Arrangements to bus neighborhood children who normally walk to Eastern Middle School are planned.
