The heatwave has been broken, but high humidity lingers as storms approach.

Thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the lower Westchester area this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

Local residents awoke Monday to a heavy cloud cover and a reprieve from the stifling heat wave that kept air conditioners blasting over the weekend.

Thunderstorms are slated to roll through Port Chester and surrounding towns beginning at about 4 p.m., bringing sporadic rain. Temperatures will remain in the mid- to high-70s, according to the weather service.
