Electric Ladyland: Psychedelic Art Comes to Port Chester

"With a title like "Electric Ladyland" and a subtitle utilizing the word "psychedelic," one might have certain expectations of this exhibit, and I am sure all of them will be fulfilled," says Clay Art Center's Leigh Taylor Mickelson.

Clay Art Center will offer a dose of colorful, counter-cultural surrealism this month with a new gallery exhibit, Electric Ladyland: The Psychedelic Ceramics of Liz Quackenbush and Lisa Orr.

Said Clay Art Center's Leigh Taylor Mickelson: "With a title like 'Electric Ladyland' and a subtitle utilizing the word 'psychedelic,' one might have certain expectations of this exhibit, and I am sure all of them will be fulfilled."

"Firstly, knowing Liz and Lisa’s highly decorated and colorful, work I am expecting a very 'busy' exhibit. I am expecting to walk into the gallery and be blasted with color, form, pattern and narrative. I am expecting visual treats, eye-candy. I am expecting to look and look, and still not be able to take it all in."

An artist's reception is slated for Saturday, Sept. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., but the exhibit will officially open on Aug. 27.

The artists, Quackenbush and Orr, will also host a demonstration workshop at the Port Chester gallery on Sept. 10 and 11. Aspiring artists can register for the workshop, titled  “Lowfire Layering: 2 Days, 2 Ways,” by visiting Clay Art Center's website.
