Bubbles & Berry Brightens Up Downtown Port Chester

The neon blue lights of a small new tea and shake shop on Waterfront Place light up the side wall of the shopping center there.

Inside, customers suck up small poppers of fruit juice through straws made just for the spherical treats.

The new store, Bubbles & Berry, opened on May 7 and has been introducing Port Chester residents and shoppers to Asian style bubble tea since then.

“ We are doing a modern twist to traditional bubble tea,” said Cynthia Chang, who owns the store with her husband Peter Liu, both Mamaroneck residents. The two also own EuroAsion Bistro to which the bubble shop is attached.

The store features the traditional style milk teas but also offers the same flavors without milk. Instead of using traditional tapioca beads, they use poppers – small round balls of fruit juice encased in clear seaweed so that as soon as you bite down on the ball you get a burst of juice.

The store is modeled after the traditional Taiwanese bubble tea and inspired by Flushing, Queens, where there are bubble teashops on every corner, Chang said. Teas come in strawberry-kiwi, mango, lichi, coconut, jasmine, green tea, and many more. They expect to soon offer two flavors of frozen yogurt as well.

Bubbles & Berry is open seven days a week until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is located at 30 Westchester Avenue, the entrance is on Waterfront Place.
