Patch Blogs: Love, Taxes and Roller Derby

A look at recent, popular blog posts in southern Westchester

Patch blogs in southern Westchester this week and last are abuzz with quirky stories—and the familiar debates over taxes, too.

First and foremost— is looking to track down a missed love connection. The two met and hit it off on on a bus ride through the region, but never traded contact information.

Bill, our blogger, is asking for your help reconnecting. Oh, and he'll throw in $200 for your trouble, too.

Equally funky is a look at a Westchester scene you may not know exists: . Blogger Miso Vicious (a nom de skate... we hope) takes readers inside the sport with the aptly named essay "The Wild Woman of Roller Derby Live Amongst You." Vicious includes a video and a short history lesson, too.

On the government front, lawmaker Paul Feiner wants to know why residents from across the state to help finance the proposed new Tappan Zee Bridge. Feiner is known for adamantly supporting a transformation that would turn the current span into a pedestrian walkway. (But governor Andrew Cuomo has since said, "nope.")

Hi, Thank you both for the feedback. Aiden, were you trying to post as a board message? There mightRead More have been some kind of technical glitch that our IT team is working out. In regards to your other comments, I urge you to give it a little time to get used to. The little bell at the top right of the page has a red circle with a number in it to tell you that someone has commented or interacted with something you have done so you should be able to go there and see exactly what is going on in the places where you posted. I hope this helps!

I agree with Aidan. I would check the Patch once a day for the articles, but several times to seeRead More how a discussion progressed. With the new format, that method is virtually impossible.

Btw, I tried for twenty minutes to post this as a new thread ... I finally gave up because pageRead More after page did zero ... just spun me nowhere. A waste.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
