Astorino: FEMA Disaster Aid Available for Irene Damage

FEMA will set up a mobile "Disaster Recovery Center" in Mamaroneck this week, helping locals apply for disaster aid.

Although Hurricane Irene went from a roar to a whimper by the time it reached the local area, the storm left small pockets of devastation in Westchester.

Now, homeowners and business owners who took the brunt of the local damage can head to Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck, where FEMA officials will assist them and help them apply for disaster aid this week.

FEMA's mobile "Disaster Recovery Center" opens to residents from Thursday through Saturday this week, with daily operating hours between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. over those three days.

Property owners have until the end of October to apply for federal aid. Although areas like Mamaroneck were most impacted by the storm, the disaster center is open to anyone from the Sound Shore area who has a storm-related claim.

“I thank FEMA for bringing its mobile center to Mamaroneck village,” County Executive Rob Astorino said in a statement. “The village was among those communities hardest hit by Hurricane Irene.”
