As more than 500 Con Ed customers in Port Chester remain without power 10 days after Hurricane Sandy slammed the village, two local facilities are opening their doors for free to residents who need a place to shower.
Port Chester Mayor Dennis G. Pilla said Port Chester's Carver Center and LA Fitness have agreed to make their shower facilities available to village residents who are still without power or displaced by the storm.
- The LA Fitness shower facility is available from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily. Bring a towel, and ask for Andrew when you get there. LA Fitness is located at 260 Boston Post Road.
- The Carver Center shower facility is available from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. Bring soap and a towel and check in at the front entrance. Carver Center is located at 400 Westchester Ave.
Both facilities have extended this accommodation until power is fully restored in the village, Pilla said.
"Here at LA Fitness, we want to do something nice for the community and open our doors to them in this time of need," LA Fitness general manager Andrew Wilen said.
At the Carver Center, Operations Director Joe Kwasniewski said the center's mission is to support Port Chester people in need.
"We open our doors, not just to our shower facilities, but also to our Clothes Closet and Food Pantry, for any displaced resident to get warm clothes, non-perishable foods, and a hot shower," Kwasniewski said.
