Building a Bridge Between the Past and Present

This year marks the 70th anniversary for the Port Chester Carver Center.  Themed Looking Back, Moving Forward – what better way to honor this theme, than to bring together members of the community to share stories from Carver’s rich history with those responsible for moving Carver into the future?

So on May On May 23rd; Carver hosted an Anniversary Photo Luncheon, one of many anniversary events planned for the year.  Long-time Carver community members, past executives, former and current employees came together to celebrate Carver and its 70 years serving the community.  Port Chester doyenne, Ogretta Logan (aka ‘Ma Logan’ to those who know and love her) was honored for her enduring commitment to Carver.  Ms. Logan, 99-years young, is a former board member, former director-at-large, the founder and former president of the Pioneers Club and Miss Carver.  She was presented with a plaque in recognition of the service, volunteer hours and love she has given to Carver through the decades.

The lunch also provided the chance for community members to aide Carver in its ongoing photo archive project.  Hundreds of old photos were uncovered during a recent spring cleaning project, many of which were uncaptioned.  The albums were on display at the lunch, offering guests the chance to tell anecdotes about times shared at Carver and identify the people in the photos.

“It was a beautiful day.  We reminisced.  We went back in time.  We educated the new Carver generation about where we began” said Michael Williams, Carver Center Logistics Coordinator and Original ‘Carver Kid’.
