Pro Billards Player Tony Robles Visits Carver Center

Professional Billiards Player Tony Robles visited Port Chester Carver Center to teach teens

The Carver Center Teen Center hosted a pool party on Friday, March 15.  Fifty teens were on hand for the unveiling of the center's new pool table.  Special guest Professional Billiards Player, Tony Robles (aka The Silent Assassin) attended the event.  He was  Predator Tour player of the Year from 2008-2012, BCAPL Grandmaster National 8-Ball Champion in 2011 and served as Billiard Consultant for HBO's Boardwalk Empire.

Robles gave a short presentation to the teens, teaching them basic mechanics of the game, the importance of body positioning and even sharing a few trick shots.  He told the teens of his personal experiences, offering a glimpse into his background, demonstrating how the game of pool taught him discipline and saved him from the streets.  Afterwards Robles christened the table by playing the first ever game on it vs. a lucky Carver teen. Other teens were able to play games via a ‘March Madness’ bracket competition.  Winners received gift cards, mini pool tables and Magic 8 Balls. Robles stayed to play more games with any teens brave enough to challenge him and signed autographs.

Carver’s Teen Center offers programs and resources designed to meet the educational, recreational, cultural and civic needs of young adults.  The Teen Center is open daily from 3-6pm.  Carver teens have access to computers and recreational equipment.  Various programs are available for registered teens, ranging from SAT prep to volunteer opportunities.  The Teen Center instills the values of commitment, self-discipline and teamwork.  The lifeguard training program certifies teens in life guarding, CPR, and First Aid, giving them valuable life skills and making them eligible for employment.
