Carpet Trends Prepares for Thousands of Sidewalk Sale Bargain Hunters

Thousands are expected to hit Purchase and its surrounding streets over the next three days for the Rye Chamber of Commerce Annual Sidewalk Sale. Discounts of up to 75 percent are guaranteed.

"It traditionally draws people from out of town into Rye and everyone loves a good bargain," said Sally Wright, the Co-President of the Chamber.

Currently, 66 vendors are signed up to participate so visitors can expect the sidewalks to be covered with discounts and friendly merchants eager to show you their wares. Non-profit organizations will also have tables set up to teach the public about their work and raise some money.

"It is a very upbeat event," said Margaret Ricketts, General Manager of Carpet Trends and Co-President of the Chamber. Ricketts expects thousands of customers to take advantage of the sale over the next three days. "There are always lines out the door," she said.

Carpet Trends, located at 5 Smith Street, looks forward to the event every year. This year owner Rob Rogers named it the Summer Color Sale, his son Marshall said while donning a bright blue tie-dye shirt with the sale name on the back.

The three-generation family-owned business uses the sidewalk sale to offer great discounts on warehouse carpets and thousands of people from across Westchester take advantage of the three-day event.

You can expect most of the stores on Purchase and the various side streets surrounding it, as well as other businesses from outside of the downtown area, to have tables with discounts as well, Wright said.

The Sidewalk Sale runs from Thursday, July 25 through Saturday, July 27. While the Sidewalk Sale ends Saturday, the Carpet Trends tent sale runs until Aug. 15.
