Call of Duty: Gamers Invited to Modern Warfare 3 Tournament

Event marks the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 video game.

Call of Duty has gained popularity in the online gaming world for several years. Many gamers are currently playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) and  are looking forward to Nov. 13 — that's the day the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be released.

As a last nod to MW3, Owen Soba, owner of Arcade2Go, is hosting a video game tournament Nov. 3 at Palisades Center mall in West Nyack. Soba, of Nanuet, has spent months organizing this tournament.

“This Crush Tour Tournament is a farewell to MW3 because Black Ops comes out two weeks later,” he said.

“I'm excited because no one has done this before at this scale in our region,” he said. “This is being done around the country, but no one truly caters to this market — Rockland, Westchester, Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Bergen.”

His company, Arcade2Go, is a "mobile video gaming solution that has been developed specifically to provide extreme multiplayer gaming entertainment to any event including, video game parties, grand openings, family picnics, video game tournaments, or corporate team building events.”

The Tournament

The Crush Tour Tournament is on Nov. 3 and is an all-day event. It’s a ladder bracket tournament with double elimination games. The current guarantee is $2,000 and can increase as more people register, up to $5,000.

“I took the largest community room there (on the Palisades Center’s fourth floor),” he said. “I expect 150-200 players throughout the day.”

Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done online. Soba added that pre-registered guests get higher priority in getting their preferred gaming time slot.

Registration time is 9 a.m. The tournament can hold up to 32 teams—four people each team.

“You can come to the event and we will try to match you if you don't have enough players to add up to four. You can sub out players prior to coming into the door,” said Soba. “Register early to be guaranteed a spot.”

“A lot of players will be coming to participate and play competitively,” he said, adding that people will be coming from all over and players from places such as Dallas, Maryland, Albany and Ohio have reached out.

Palisades Center mall is located at Exit 12 of the New York State Thruway in West Nyack — the third exit in Rockland County after you cross the Tappan Zee Bridge. The mall has free indoor and outdoor parking.

Sponsorships

Soba is also seeking sponsorships from individuals, companies and organizations.

“I'm currently offering sponsorship opportunities,” said Soba. “It's a unique demographic with the ages of players ranging from 12 – 30.”
