Bartaco Is A 'Highly Scalable' Concept, Investors Say

Could the Port Chester restaurant become the first of many? Investors of California Pizza Kitchen and Au Bon Pain fame announce deal to expand business.

With its expansive taco menu and friendly beach decor, could go national?

Investors from Rosser Capital Partners seem to think so. On Wednesday, the investment group announced a partnership with Barteca Holdings, LLC, the company founded by restaurant owners Sasa Mahr-Batuz and Andy Pforzheimer to encompass their bartaco and brands.

A look at Greenwich-based Rosser Capital's previous investments in the restaurant industry could provide a glimpse into bartaco's future.

The investors have worked with brands like California Pizza Kitchen, Au Bon Pain and Logan's Roadhouse. The latter boasts more than 100 locations, while California Pizza Kitchen has recently expanded into grocery retail with a line of frozen pizzas and recently opened its first restaurant in India.

The investment firm focuses on restaurants that can "demonstrate significant growth potential," and the barteca group fits the bill. Although bartaco has only two locations, in Port Chester and Stamford, there are seven Barcelona Wine Bar locations and two more opening soon.

"Sasa and Andy have created two exciting restaurant concepts that we believe are highly scalable and we are very pleased to partner with these talented and creative entrepreneurs," said Harold O. Rosser, managing partner of Rosser Capital Partners, in Wednesday's announcement. "We are pursuing investment opportunities that play to our strengths and Barteca clearly fits that criteria."
