Summer Wine Tasting at Tarry Lodge

Tarry Terrazzo will be celebrating the taste of warm-weather through themed wine selections in this summer series.

Take enjoyable lessons in fine Italian wines Saturday afternoons this summer at the Tarry Terrazzo Summer Wine Tasting.

Every third Saturday of the month this summer, the Tarry Lodge will open the doors to its rooftop patio where guests can enjoy the finer things in life- some good food and delicious vino. For an hour, starting at 2 p.m., patrons can enjoy the sun and the view for some warm-weather ambiance.

Nancy Selzer, co-owner of the restaurant, describes this event as "a fun way to spend an hour on a Saturday afternoon."

Rain or shine, Wine Director Julia Blandori and Selzer will greet the season with enthusiasm and sunshine. With what are generally five or six wines, there will be discussions on each of the types tasted that day.  Blandori will also talk about the regions where the wines are produced, as well as the wine-making process. She will also determine which bottles are paired best with certain foods. This choosing is based on flavoring, aromas and textures.

As there are different themes for each afternoon of this on-going event, no two Saturdays are the same. Since this event had its kickoff May 13, the Lodge has delved into "Italian White Basics," which can be described as a road trip through Italian whites, among others.

"People love it," Selzer says of the event. She adds that although the team does similar things like this one with its other restaurants in New York City, "an added twist is that we're doing it outside. It has had a very positive response so far."

Tickets to the event, which run $35 each, will be scooped up quickly, so reservations are required. The next Saturday of the series will be taking place July 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. While the theme of this installment has not been selected yet, it is sure to be a spectacular experience.
