Port Chester High School Musical: A Chorus Line Premieres Tonight

Port Chester High School students bring a Broadway favorite to the local stage.

High school students will trade in textbooks for dancing shoes this weekend as they glide across the stage in the spring musical A Chorus Line.

The in-house theater group has practiced from morning until night in past weeks to perform their rendition of the stage favorite, which chronicles a group of young hopefuls and their rise to stardom on the chorus line of a Broadway show.

Backdropped by a stage itself, the playbill is jam-packed with dance moves and catchy musical numbers like “I Hope I Get It” and “At the Ballet," songs designed to get audience members tapping their feet to the rhythm. They just might get a few giggles, too – the play's script is peppered with quirky punchlines.

“Everyone is really energetic and has gotten into it," said cast member Rosie Saveltri. "There are parts where we laugh and so can the audience.”

A noteworthy aspect of A Chorus Line is that it’s an ensemble show, highlighting a group cast members instead of one or two leads.

“I couldn’t pick just one Cinderella,” said Josh Tenzer, the show's director.

Saveltri agreed, noting that there were plenty of solos for individual cast members to exercise their vocal chords.

“Everybody has been able to have their shining moment on stage,” she said.

For a lot of high school seniors, the final curtain close at Port Chester High School will be bittersweet.

"It's been amazing," said senior said Kauanny Zanetti. "I'm sad it's my last show."

Showtimes are tonight at 8 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Port Chester High School auditorium.
