New PC Art Exhibit Captures Moments In Time

The new exhibit, In|Form, is on display through the end of the month at Port Chester's Clay Art Center.

About 1,600 miles separate artists Jury Smith of Pennsylvania and Jill Oberman of Montana.

This month, that geographic distance has been reduced to a few feet. Oberman and Smith share gallery space in Port Chester's Clay Art Center through the end of October, their works complementing each other in a duo exhibit dubbed In|Form.

Why bring these particular artists together? According to the Clay Art Center: "We paired these two artists because they share similar aesthetics and fundamentals in their work, with Jill Oberman on the wall, and Jury Smith on the pedestal."

The similarities are evident in the pieces, which look like they've come from the same set despite the fact that they were created by two distinct artists. For instance, the simple gray and white of Oberman's "Bloom" matches the descending gradients in one of Smith's works.

The artists say they were inspired by the natural and the man-made; the exhibit's pieces show influences ranging from architecture to the natural beauty of horizons.

"My sculptures attempt to convey a sense that the horizon might also be a point of restoration: a space where there is a convergence between expectation, destiny, desire, hopelessness, distance, and vision," Oberman said.
