For Kids, by Kids: New Gallery and Classes Focus on Budding Artists

Clay Art Center hosts a gallery of student works ahead of summer camp registration.

The folks at understand that you have to crawl before you can walk when it comes to the art of clay-making, so what better way to than to spotlight novice sculptors?

To compliment a thriving arts-in-education program, world-renowned were swapped for amateur talent this weekend at the opening of the facility's month-long annual exhibition, Rising Stars: A Student Show.

Gallery walls featured creations from every single studio class including Intro to Clay, Basic Wheel and Teens on Wheels. The bowls, cups and plates ranged from sculptural to to just plain .

But who came to Port Chester to celebrate if none of the artists showcased have been plastered across Ceramics Monthly yet? About 150 members of the Clay Art Center fan-base, including friends, family and admirers.

The show will be available for viewing from now until April 2, 2011.

Summer Camp Registration Now Open

Like what you saw in the student show and want to give it a try it for yourself? Clay Art Center is offering a summer day camp program for youngsters ages six to 14, with a 20 percent discount to any residents with children in the Port Chester School District.

Registration has already begun for activities June-August, so call today for a chance to have imagination fused with self-confidence for classes like Beach Party Clay Camp and Figure Fun.

Linda T., I would guess Mrs. Brakewood lives in Port Chester if she is running for the Port ChesterRead More Board of Ed. Even if the schools had to impose an austerity budget, your taxes would still go up. The state has more control in these matters than you think.

Linda, the per pupil expenditure in PC schools is the lowest in Westchester and Rockland countiesRead More ... by about $2,000 per student. The issue is two fold. First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.

I am concerned there is not enough attention to detail in the BOE budget overall and Mrs. BrakewoodRead More comment about keeping taxes affordable ... where does she live ? they are out of control and in my opinion the money we pay for taxes we should have the best looking schools anywhere ... just my opinion
