World Book Night (WBN) is an ambitious campaign to give away 500,000 free books across America all on one day - April 23, 2012 - by enlisting 25,000 volunteer book lovers to help promote reading by going into their communities and distributing free specially printed editions of a book they especially enjoy. World Book Night is supported by American publishers, bookstores and libraries nationwide.
Individuals were invited to apply to be one of the "givers" and those selected are passionate readers who came up with a creative and thoughtful place to give out their free books. They are distributing one of thirty official WBN selections. All books will be handed out personally to light readers.
I'll be giving away 20 free copies of John Irving's masterpiece, A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANY. I'll be starting from the library on Haseco Avenue and going to Westchester Avenue and downtown.
