Memorial Day Events In Port Chester

Port Chester Post 93 of the American Legion is set to host its annual Memorial Day observances on Monday, with events from 8:45 to 11 a.m. that visit war monuments throughout the community and conclude with a parade on Westchester Avenue.

8:45 a.m. – A memorial service at the Port Chester Marina to honor servicemen who served and died at sea. Flowers will be strewn on the water.

9 a.m. – A color guard and a firing team will be at William James Memorial Gateway Park on North Main Street, where Taps will be played.

9:15 a.m. - A color guard and a firing team will be at the Vietnam War Memorial at Lyons Park, corner of King Street and Putnam Avenue, where Taps will be played.

9:30 a.m. - A color guard and a firing team will be at the Spanish War Memorial in Summerfield Park, where Taps will be played.

9:45 a.m. - A color guard and a firing team will be at Civil War Memorial, corner of Post Road and Pearl Street, where Taps will be played.

10 a.m. – The firing team will be at Post 93, 78 Pearl St.

10:30 a.m. - A color guard and a firing team will be at Port Chester Fire Department headquarters on Westchester Avenue, where Taps will be played.

10:45 a.m. – Ceremonies move to the Korean War Memorial at Crawford Park in Rye Brook.

11 a.m. – Ceremonies at Veterans Memorial Park, North Regent Street and Westchester Avenue, followed by a parade down Westchester Avenue. The program at Veterans Memorial Park is expected to last about 35 minutes.

First, our property values are not as strong as our neighbors, so our homes have a higher levy in order to fund the schools. Second, and more important, is that the reliance on property taxes slams moderate income communities like PC. We need for the state to move to an income tax to fund schools. Scream at your legislators ... not the BoE.
